The Starry Plough is a full service restaurant, pub and nightclub that has been a staple of the East Bay scene for over 35 years. With deep roots as an Irish Revolutionary watering hole, the history of protest runs as deep today as it did when we opened three decades ago.
We have entertainment and events 7 days a week, and feature the best acts from the Bay Area and beyond.
We're pleased to have hosted and continue to host artists such as: Jonathan Richman, Alex Chilton, Old 97’s, Cake, Damnations TX, Ani DiFranco, Jeff Buckley, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Guy Clark, Jim Lauderdale, Country Joe McDonald, Rambling Jack Elliott, Amy Rigby, Big Sandy & his Fly-Rite Boys, Dead Rock West, Erin McKeown, The Stone Foxes, The Brothers Comatose, Amendola vs. Blades, Antioquia, The Moore Brothers, Foxtails Brigade, Rosin Coven, Bitch, David Gans, Dead Winter Carpenters, Big Light, and many more talented musicians.
In everything we do, we hold dear the motto that we proudly present as the center of our establishment.
"No Revolutionary movement is complete without its poetic expression. If such a movement has caught hold of the imagination of the masses, they will seek a vent in song for the aspirations, fears, and hopes the loves and hatreds engendered by the struggle. Until the movement is marked by the joyous , defiant singing of revolutionary songs, it lacks one of the most distinctive marks of a popular revolutionary movement; it is the dogma of the few and not the faith of the multitude"
-James Connolly 1907
